Role Overview
New York or Nowhere is seeking an experienced In-House Photo Retoucher and Editor to join our team and lead the retouching and editing of eCommerce, product, and lifestyle imagery. This role is primarily focused on transforming raw photography into polished, consistent, and campaign-ready assets across all channels, with a focus on ecommerce product photography, product flat lays, product lifestyle images, and select creative/editorial photography. Reporting to the Director of Creative Production, this role will partner closely with our In-House Photographer and Creative Team to deliver high-quality, on-brand imagery. This role will also support with on-set operations for the Photography Team when needed. The ideal candidate is technically precise, and is fluent in both traditional retouching techniques as well as the latest AI-powered image tools. You understand how to elevate imagery while preserving authenticity, product integrity, and brand standards.
Responsibilities
- Execute High-End Retouching and Editing: Retouch and edit photo assets across e-commerce, campaigns, social, and marketing channels. Perfect color accuracy, skin and fabric work, garment shape, compositing, background cleanup, shadow/reflection refinement, and fit consistency
- AI-Enhanced Editing & Image Generation: Integrate AI solutions into post-production workflows while maintaining premium, on-brand output. Evaluate and test new AI platforms to improve efficiency and creative flexibility
- Primary Retouching Liaison: In the event that we partner with external retouching partners, act as the primary liaison, owning the communication of all feedback on selects and retouching to ensure product accuracy and consistency
- Timely Delivery of Assets: Collaborate with the Director of Creative Production, In-House Photographer, and Production Team to deliver assets on time, with the ability to manage a high-volume of images in a fast-paced environment
- Photography Support: Provide on-set support to Photography Team when needed, including lighting setup, equipment management, and oversight of digital tech
- Uphold Processes and Documentation: Maintain and evolve image standards and best practices across content. Ensure all assets are organized, documented, and delivered according to internal workflows and production timeline
Qualifications
- 5+ years of professional editing experience (in-house or freelance), preferably in fashion, lifestyle, or product photography
- Expert-level proficiency in Adobe Suite, familiarity with Capture One is a plus
- Strong understanding of color theory, lighting, and fabric rendering
- Demonstrated experience with AI-powered image editing and generation tools
- Advanced compositing and manipulation skills
- Ability to balance speed with meticulous attention to detail, with a strong commitment to delivering polished, high-quality imagery
- Solution-oriented mindset with the ability to creatively problem-solve and adapt to changing needs
- Ability to operate effectively and independently in a fast-paced environment, including responding to last-minute requests and shifting priorities
- Highly organized and process-oriented, with strong attention to workflows, asset management, and documentation
- Positive, collaborative team player with a proactive and professional attitude
- Experience in product photography and knowledge of lighting and equipment is a plus!
- Video editing experience is a plus!
