Content Lead Jobs in Cremorne, Victoria, Australia at Young Folks

Young Folks is a small Melbourne-based B Corp certified creative agency working with start-ups, scale-ups and established brands that want to grow, stay relevant and make a genuine impact.

And we're looking for a Content Lead to join the team and contribute to our next phase of growth.

This role sits across three workstreams within the agency:

  • Brand creation: defining and launching new brands in market
  • Brand momentum: driving growth through campaigns, activations and ongoing marketing
  • Brand evolution: helping established brands reposition, rebrand or move into new territory.

One week you might be crafting a verbal identity for a start-up preparing to launch. The next, writing website copy and articles for a B Corp business building their online presence. Or teaming up with our Performance Lead to run a quarterly business review for a marketing retainer client, identifying content opportunities, audience insights and ways to improve results.

Whether you’re an experienced copywriter wanting more ownership, or a content strategist who still loves the craft of writing, this role is perfect for a creative and analytical wordsmith ready to lead the thinking and stay close to the doing.

What you'll do:

  • Lead verbal identity and collaborate with the design team on visual identity work
  • Craft campaign messaging, content journeys and content marketing recommendations in collaboration with performance marketing and creative teams
  • Plan content calendars based on research, analysis, category knowledge and cultural awareness
  • Create content that balances creativity, clarity and optimisation, writing for humans first while applying search, accessibility and platform best practice
  • Present content ideas to clients, champion the work and help sell strong thinking in
  • Proofread, edit and quality-check content so all outputs are polished, accurate and ready for client review
  • Lead quarterly business reviews for selected content retainers, using insights and recommendations to inform the next phase of work
  • Collaborate with marketers, designers, client service folks and our freelance crew
  • Bring opportunities, risks and recommendations to the table before they become obvious
  • Help evolve our content frameworks, systems and standards as the agency grows.

What we’re looking for:

  • Around 7+ years’ experience in copywriting, writing, editing, or similar
  • Agency experience is essential for success in this role
  • Strong experience across branding and marketing
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong creative instincts and commercial judgement
  • Confidence working across multiple clients and deadlines
  • The ability to move between big-picture thinking and practical execution
  • A high level of ownership, initiative and accountability
  • Someone who likes pace, pressure, variety and ambitious work, and brings a sense of play to the process.

You’ll thrive in this role if:

This is a senior, high-trust role in a fast-moving agency. It will suit someone who is ready to take ownership of content within the agency and play a role in building the team over time.

You’ll thrive here if you’re comfortable:

  • Balancing leading and doing
  • Getting started without waiting for perfect instructions
  • Spotting opportunities and risks before being asked
  • Making clear recommendations when there are several possible paths
  • Bringing solutions, a point of view and a sense of play
  • Having direct, respectful conversations about the work and the way we work
  • Using tools and frameworks while keeping your own thinking sharp
  • Creating content plans, then getting busy copywriting
  • Holding the work to a high standard, even when time is tight

What success looks like in the first 90 days:

  • You’ve built strong relationships with the team and key clients
  • You’ve reviewed current content plans for clients and shared recommendations to make them even better
  • You’ve crafted on-point copy for websites, social media posts and email campaigns, and they’re done and dusted in two rounds, max. No V6 FINAL FINAL FINAL here. 😉
  • You’ve dragged out The Australian Style Manual from the bookshelf at least once to discuss grammatically correct typesetting with our design team
  • You’ve written verbal identities so good clients say they feel like you climbed into their brain, untangled their ideas and made sense of it all
  • You’ve had a deep dive with our performance lead on ad creative performance and shared a bunch of ideas on new hooks, content angles and ways to improve results
  • You’ve been given a Catalan nickname by our Creative Director, Marco
  • You’re bringing useful ideas for how our content services can evolve
  • You’ve identified quick wins to improve how we plan, write and present content to clients
  • You've collaborated with our AD to set in place growth plans for content services and the path to growing the content team is emerging

What’s on offer:

This is a senior role with real influence, autonomy and growth potential. For the right person, it’s an opportunity to help shape the future of content at Young Folks and build the function over time.

You’ll work directly alongside senior leadership across brand, creative and marketing projects for challenger brands, purpose-driven organisations and ambitious businesses that want to accelerate their growth and amplify their impact.

You’ll be part of a small team that cares deeply about the quality of the work, the relationships we build and the kind of agency and impact we’re creating together. That means high standards, direct conversations, genuine trust and plenty of room to shape how things evolve.

Creative work is demanding. It should also be energising, collaborative and fun. We take the work seriously without taking ourselves too seriously. Expect strong opinions, sharp thinking, good banter and probably a nickname within your first month. Just ask Matthew, aka: Lumbsy, aka: Tina, aka: Matias ;)

What else is included:

  • Hybrid work model (3 days in studio, 2 from home)
  • $100K–$120K salary + super, depending on experience
  • Four paid wellbeing days annually (in addition to annual leave)
  • Individual learning and development plan with dedicated growth investment
  • Direct involvement in shaping our content frameworks, systems and standards
  • Access to a broad mix of branding and marketing work
  • A genuine pathway towards a leadership role as the agency grows

How to apply

Please apply via our application portal here: https://forms.gle/WN9k5vAwN7BNxE7f6

If you've made it this far tell us what you'd like your Catalan nickname to be. Our Creative Director, Marco, hails from Barcelona and has a habit of giving everyone a new name anyway, so you may as well get in first. Pop it anywhere in your application and we'll know you read the details

PS. We are currently undertaking a rebrand and website update so our website is a little out of date and (embarrassingly) light on recent case studies. We’ll be sure to share more of the work (and what’s ahead) as part of the recruitment process.
