Makmende is an impact-focused media agency based in Amsterdam. We work with NGOs, progressive organizations and institutions that care about sustainability, social justice and inclusion. Together with a global network of local crews across Asia, Africa, Latin America and the MENA region, we produce video and photography around the world. Our clients are international NGOs, brands and institutions that care about sustainability, social justice and inclusion. We work for clients like BRAC, Cartier Women’s Initiative, UNESCO and Fondation Botnar.
Our Amsterdam team leads on strategy, concepts and scripts. Our crews on the ground research, direct and film. We edit and finalize productions in-house.
Role Description
We’re looking for a trainee who is excited about both production and creation. You’ll support the team in keeping productions running smoothly, while also helping shape stories from research to script to edit. You’ll be involved in multiple projects at the same time and collaborate closely with producers, creatives, editors, clients, and our local crews.
What you’ll do day-to-day
Production support:
- Find, brief and manage our local crews
- Help set up budgets, schedules and production planning
- Coordinate contacts, logistics and timelines
- Keep track of moving parts and make sure things are arranged on time
- Support client communication and internal alignment across teams
Creative support:
- Research stories, contexts and characters
- Support scriptwriting and story development
- Collaborate with directors and crews on the ground
- Support edit feedback and help shape short video narratives
- Join creative sessions and bring fresh ideas to the table
Who you are
- You’re enrolled in, or recently graduated from an HBO/WO programme (media, international studies or similar)
- You can juggle multiple tasks and stay organised under deadlines
- You’re proactive, independent, and a team player
- You’re interested in the topics our clients work on (sustainability, social justice, inclusion)
- You have strong English (spoken and written)
- You have affinity with video creation (scriptwriting, directing and/or editing is a plus)
- You have experience working with or around a film crew (student projects count)
- Nice to have: A third language (French, Spanish, Swahili, Arabic and/or a personal connection with or knowledge of one of our key regions (Asia, Africa, Latin America, MENA)
- Available to start as soon as possible

- This position starts as a 6-month trainee role. At the end of the six months, and depending on the results and mutual fit, there may be the opportunity to transition into a Junior position at Makmende.
