Job Summary
We are seeking a talented and passionate Scenic Painter to bring visions to life on stage and set designs. As a key member of the production team, you will transform conceptual artwork into vibrant, detailed scenery that enhances storytelling and immerses audiences. Duties
- Prepare surfaces by sanding, priming, and sealing to ensure optimal paint adhesion and durability.
- Apply scenic paint using brushes, rollers, spray guns, and other hand tools to achieve desired textures and finishes.
- Interpret design sketches, blueprints, and CAD drawings (such as AutoCAD or SketchUp files) to execute scenic concepts accurately
- Collaborate with art directors, set designers, and production teams to develop color schemes and visual effects aligned with creative visions.
- Fabricate scenic elements through carpentry, woodworking, and fabrication techniques to build structures or decorative features.
- Operate power tools safely for construction, painting, rigging support structures, or modifying set pieces as needed.
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace while adhering to safety protocols during heavy lifting and the use of heavy machinery.
- Assist in the installation of scenery on stage or set locations, including rigging and securing elements for safety and stability.
- Use Adobe Photoshop or other digital tools for color matching, rendering visual concepts, or editing design files.
- Read blueprints and technical drawings accurately to ensure precise execution of scenic components.
Experience
- Proven experience in scenic painting within theater, film production, or live event environments
- Strong skills in visual arts, painting techniques, combined with knowledge of construction painting and interior design principles
- Familiarity with CAD software such as AutoCAD or SketchUp for interpreting technical drawings and creating design layouts
- Knowledge of lighting design concepts that influence color application and scene mood setting
- Hands-on experience with hand tools, power tools, carpentry, woodworking, fabricating scenic elements, and heavy lifting required for set construction
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team while managing multiple projects under tight deadlines
- Understanding of safety standards related to rigging, heavy equipment operation, and construction painting
