ABOUT NATURA
Natura is a California-based cannabis company and home to a portfolio of award-winning brands — Sluggers, Dee, and ICED. We operate at the intersection of culture, craft, and commerce, bringing premium cannabis products to market through innovative product development, bold creative execution, and a best-in-class sales organization.
Sluggers is our flagship brand and one of the most recognized names in California cannabis — built on premium pre-rolls, vapes, limited-edition drops, and a fanbase that spans athletes, artists, and everyday consumers who simply refuse to settle. Every product is designed to be experienced and collected, with packaging and collaborations that people actually hold onto. The Director of Marketing will own the field and digital marketing vision that keeps Sluggers at the top.
THE ROLE
You are the operator who turns Natura's brand strategy into shipped campaigns — every retail chain, every cultural moment, every cannabis holiday. This is an execution-first leadership role. You will be the creative and operational force behind every campaign, event, product launch, promotion, demo, and training activation across our portfolio.
You will lead and develop a team of field marketing representatives, set the standard for how we activate at retail and at scale, and personally own our largest and most strategic marketing initiatives. You will use AI as your multiplier instead of headcount as your crutch. This role requires someone who is as organized as they are creative, and as energetic on day 90 as they are on day one.
What we don't have — and what this role closes — is the single person who owns the end-to-end machine that takes a moment on the calendar (the World Cup, Mother's Day, 4/20, a Lakers playoff run, a chain like STIIZY signing a multi-store deal) and turns it into a campaign with packaging, swag, merchandising, content, budtender activation, and PR coordinated to land at the same time. That gap is the single biggest hole in our marketing department. This role closes it.
Key Responsibilities
Campaign & Calendar Execution
- Own the strategy, creative brief, launch, and post-campaign analysis for all brand initiatives.
- Lead messaging and aesthetics across digital, print, in-store, experiential, and event touchpoints.
- Execute coordinated campaigns for cannabis holidays, mainstream holidays, and cultural events.
- Adhere to strict campaign timelines: build 60–90 days out, ship 14 days out, and debrief 14 days after.
Retail-Chain Activation
- Proactively deliver custom, quarterly marketing plans to major retail chains (e.g., STIIIZY, Cookies, Catalyst).
- Define the lead brand, SKUs, in-store activations, budtender incentives, social content, and PR angles for each chain.
- Design and lead in-store demos, budtender trainings, and retail marketing experiences to drive sell-through.
- Build scalable event toolkits and playbooks for consistent field execution.
AI Integration & Development
- Utilize internal AI tools daily for drafting, planning, and task automation.
- Write specs and provide direct feedback to the build team to improve internal AI systems.
- Replace time-heavy operational tasks with efficient AI prompts.
Team Leadership & Operations
- Lead and develop a team of field marketing representatives by setting clear KPIs and performance standards.
- Partner with the VP of Product & Sales and the Director of Retail Marketing to align initiatives with sales goals.
- Oversee digital execution (social, email/SMS, paid media) and physical retail presence (POS, displays, merchandising).
- Develop quarterly and annual marketing plans while tracking ROI, team activity, and campaign performance.
First 90-Day Deliverables
- Days 1–30: Map retail chains, build a customer-program matrix, and identify the top three highest-leverage chains and calendar moments. Write your first campaign spec.
- Days 31–60: Ship your first retail chain program and first calendar-moment campaign. Document AI tool efficacy.
- Days 61–90: Ship two additional campaigns. Build a repeatable AI template for chain programs. Present a 12-month calendar plan (with budgets and kill criteria) to leadership.
KPIs & Measurement
- Campaigns Shipped: 6–10 by Q2; 12–16 by Q4.
- Active Chain Programs: 5 active programs in 90 days; 12 within a year.
- Moments Activated: Every major cannabis holiday plus 6+ mainstream moments annually.
- Execution Speed: 21 days from brief to ship for calendar moments; 45 days for chain programs.
- Sell-Through: Measurable SKU movement in targeted accounts.
- AI Development: Deliver 3+ product specs for internal tools in your first 6 months.
Requirements & Qualifications
- 5+ years owning end-to-end marketing programs, with at least 2 years in a leadership/director role.
- Proven track record of activating retail chains and moving volume, backed by specific data.
- Extensive experience running multi-channel cultural or holiday campaigns.
- Active, daily power-user of AI tools (Claude, ChatGPT, etc.) with the ability to demonstrate workflows live.
- Exceptional project management skills and the ability to operate effectively with incomplete information.
- Strong, plain-English communicator who relies on transparency and direct feedback.
- Willingness to travel to key accounts, events, and activations as needed.
- Preferred: Experience in California cannabis, CPG, lifestyle, or beverage alcohol; background in field/trade marketing.
Disqualifiers
- You require a large team before you can execute deliverables.
- You prioritize strategy decks over actively shipping campaigns.
- You are uncomfortable giving or receiving direct, honest feedback.
- You view AI as a novelty rather than a core, daily operational tool.
