Manager, Digital Content, M+ Museum Jobs in Hong Kong SAR at West Kowloon Cultural District Authority
M+ is a museum dedicated to collecting, exhibiting, and interpreting visual art, design and architecture, moving image, and Hong Kong visual culture of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. Located in Hong Kong’s WestK, we are one of the leading museums of modern and contemporary visual culture in the world. The Manager, Digital Content will oversee the museum’s digital presence on a variety of platforms and touchpoints to support both an online and onsite visitor experience. Online platforms will play a critical role in a physical museum visitor’s experience, but also give the museum an opportunity to cultivate and engage international audiences who may not have a chance to visit the museum. Platforms include the M+ Websiteand related digital platforms where the museum is represented.
This role sits within the Digital Content and Initiatives team and collaborates across the organisation’s departments, working closely with marketing, technology, editorial, and curatorial colleagues. The ideal candidate has experience in working with arts or arts-related organisations in a digital content production environment, has excellent communication and writing skills, and expertise in SEO and content strategy.
You Will Be Responsible For
- Supporting in contributing to and developing big-picture strategies to help the museum reach and grow wider audiences not only in Hong Kong but also regionally and internationally (such as Greater Bay area and Mainland China);
- Managing the content calendar and overseeing publication of all informational and programming-related content for various M+ platforms such as the museum website;
- Developing compelling ways to enhance the public’s understanding and awareness of the museum and subsequently deepen engagement;
- Expanding the museum’s audience reach by exploring new platforms and opportunities, external partnerships or other initiatives;
- Establishing and maintaining content publishing workflows, best practices and policies to ensure editorial consistency and accessibility across media and platforms;
- Collaborating with the museum’s digital content, marketing, editorial, communications, and social media colleagues to sync messaging and marketing activities;
- Managing and steering the work copywriter(s), editor(s) and translator(s) to ensure that draft content from individual teams is transformed into publishable, web-ready copy consistent with the M+ voice and style guidelines;
- Reviewing data and analytics to harness insights and make data-driven decisions to expand the museum’s reach and impact online;
- Working with in-house and external design and technology teams to maintain and iterate on digital content experiences and contribute to a roadmap for future enhancements;
- Undertaking any other job duties as assigned; and
- performing any duties from time to time as reasonably as assigned by M+.
You Should
- Possess a recognised university degree, preferably in communications, journalism, translation, or related disciplines;
- Have around 6-10 years of work experience in high-traffic digital content production environment either in arts or cultural organisations, or content-led organisations such as media and journalism with 3 years in supervisory role
- Have prior experience in managing in-house and external content contributors and delivering online publishing or digital projects;
- Have deep understanding of digital landscape and interest in new trends, technologies and behaviours of audiences online (especially in Hong Kong and Mainland China);
- Have strong interpersonal skills and superb written skills in English;
- Possess excellent Chinese reading and writing skills, with experience localising Chinese content;
- Have strong project management skills and a keen eye for detail; and
- be able to work well under pressure and deliver to tight deadlines.
