As our Head of Social, you are responsible for the overall social output of the agency – a result of having your finger on the pulse of social trends, shaping meaningful ideas that matter, and leading a team to expertly bring them to life through varied social channels and content types.

HOW YOU MAKE A DIFFERENCE:

Your finger sits firmly on the pulse of culture. You’re an avant-garde social lead who is as comfortable sitting through the most obscure subreddit as you are working closely with the creatives to create high-impact social campaigns.

You understand how people interact with social platforms, how to cut through the noise, and how social fits in a broader campaign ecosystem. 

Crucially, this is a growth role. We are committed to turbocharging social at Special – as a fully resourced discipline, with an ambitious growth mindset. So, we need a hustler and a client whisperer, someone who can take the platform and opportunity Special provides and lead a globally renowned social offering.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

This job should be considered as a rare career chance: if you wanted to craft a social offering from a high-calibre creative agency, how would you do it? Special is providing a client base and some supportive resources, but the vision should sit with you. We do not want a mid-tier ‘doer’ – we are after an ambitious thinker who is ready to take on the world:

Your core competencies:

Client relationships: You are the social partner the client trusts. You design teams built to crack tough briefs and consistently deliver the unexpected. You are always available at the end of the phone, and you have relationships that extend beyond the boardroom.

Agency development & new business: Working alongside the Managing Director of Special PR, and the wider agency leadership team, you will build and grow the social offering across Special. You will need to hustle and network for new business, spot organic opportunities, and ensure we’re on competitive pitch lists.

Financial Management: You will take the lead on the financial performance of social at Special – balancing projected revenue with resource capability and ensuring that we maintain a profitable operation.

Industry Relationships: You will be connected within the industry – holding key relationships with social publishers and industry bodies (TikTok, Google, Meta, etc.). You will champion the social offering at Special by contributing to industry panels, marketing trade and mentoring opportunities.

Strategy: You understand the balance between creativity, strategy and commercial impact. You know what creative effectiveness looks like – you can partner with creatives and strategy teams to develop social media strategies that are built on a true understanding of a business's problems, audience insights and cultural relevance.

Content Planning & Optimisation: In partnership with agency content leads, you will oversee the planning, production and optimisation of all social assets across the agency – acting as an expert voice to ensure that content is relevant to each channel and inspiring the social team to identify new and reactive content opportunities based on social listening and trends.

Social Creative: In partnership with the earned creative team, you will champion social creativity across the agency – you will be able to develop social ideas that are innovative, culture-changing, brand-building and crucially… entertaining!

Team Management & Culture: You help lead and foster a warm, inclusive and supportive culture at Special, ensuring that team issues are addressed and each staff member has a performance plan to help with their personal development.
