Overview

Freelance Designer Jobs in London Area, United Kingdom at Pip & Nut | B Corp

We’re Pip & Nut

(& You could be too).

We make the best nut butters & snacks you can get your paws on.

Beginning

Pip started Pip & Nut in 2015. After whizzing up nut butters at home (using natural ingredients & nothing else) she was onto something tasty. Her friends agreed. Her family agreed, and soon the people of London’s Maltby Street Market agreed.

The word – and the nut butter – started spreading. Fast. We leapt onto the shelves of Selfridges. Then Sainsbury’s. Then Wholefoods & Ocado. Then Asda, Morrisons, Waitrose, Co-Op, Tesc- you get it.

Middle

We’re in every UK supermarket, but we’re not done yet (that’s why we need you). We want to keep growing while showing people that tasty food can be good for you & the planet. We’re a B Corp after all. That’s not just a pretty badge. Better business is an all-day, everyday mindset.

Next

We’re nimble: we’re the number one & fastest growing nut butter brand in the UK.

We’re tenacious: next up, we’re taking over snacking.

We’re a B Corp & proud: we’re doing all of that while looking after people & the planet. 10% of our profits go to The Pip & Nut Foundation to support organisations tackling hunger & loneliness in communities.

The squirrels are taking over. Are you in?

What you’ll be doing

Warning: it won’t be long till you speak fluent squirrel.

As our Freelance Mid-weight Designer, you'll be working three days a week (preferably Tuesday – Thursday from our office, but this can be up for discussion!), becoming a critical cog in our creative machine.

As part of the internal Creative Studio, you’ll be working with our Creative Manager and Copywriter & Creative Studio Manager, to bring briefs to life across every part of the business. You’ll make sure our Brand Guidelines are breathing through every banner, flyer, photo, piece of packaging etc. From big, meaty brand design projects, to important internal or buyer facing creations – you’ll help make sure every asset could only come from Pip & Nut.

You’ll be comfortable balancing brand guidelines on one hand & pushing creative boundaries with the other. We’re a fast-moving team with lots of projects on-the-go, which means no two days will look the same. Cliché, but true. Briefs can range from the cheeky, (i.e., merch for our annual Camp Nuts) to the refined (i.e., high-priority packaging projects needing that all-important technical eye for detail). As well as our Creative Studio, you’ll work with our Marketing Team, external agencies & suppliers – where your creative input will be key to keeping brand consistent.

In a nutshell, you’ll be:

  • A packaging design & artworking pro: You’ll make sure design and artwork translates into perfect print across our Spreads & Snacking ranges – working with our team on new/existing product packaging projects across UK & Global markets.
  • Keeping Shopper up to scratch: Creating a wide range of shopper, trade & internal assets that stick to briefs & brand guidelines. This could include digital assets, website content, ECRM visuals, paid social content, printed point of sale, trade ads, online trade media & more.
  • Creating concepts & guidelines: Where needed, making mood boards, providing art direction & finessing overall guidelines that will help move internal team projects & keep external creative partners on track. i.e., external paid digital content production.
  • A brand guardian: You’ll keep our guidelines in mind, making sure all assets feel uniquely "us”, no matter the setting.
  • Finessing final pitches that make meetings happen: You’ll help make sure the decks that land us the listings are in tip-top shape, working with our Sales Team to execute meeting-making buyer engagement.
  • Bringing the brand to life: You’ll be key to concepting, creating & rolling out the Pip & Nut look & feel at big brand activations like Hackney Half & Royal Parks Half.

Things we’re looking for (skills & credentials):

First up: You’ll need a varied portfolio which shows off your attention to detail & skills across digital, print & packaging design. Experience in completing packaging artwork is a must!

Other things we’re looking for:

  • The classic designer’s toolkit. You’ll be able to use Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator & InDesign for both print & digital.
  • Ease with illustration. You have some basic illustration skills.
  • Confident concept communicator. You’re happy presenting creative concepts & ideas, working through feedback & sharing solutions – with initial briefs in mind.
  • A beady-eye for detail & deadlines. You can work with multiple briefs over multiple deadlines & keep an eye on the small stuff.
  • Fresh ideas & energy. We’re looking for someone with their own ideas who can bring expertise & energy to Pip & Nut.
  • A future-thinker. We’d for you love you to have a curiosity around AI & how it can be used to enhance creative work & make our studio more efficient.
  • Bonus: content shooting content. If you do have an eye for photography & videography as well as editing that’s fantastic – but not essential!

Hold UP.

We exist to 'help people love food that loves them & the planet'. To do that right, we need to build our business on fairness, making sure every team member feels they belong. That's why Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) will always be front of mind in every part of Pip & Nut – including our job applications! We're aware that women & people from different backgrounds will often only apply for jobs where they meet 100% of listed qualifications. Don't let that 100% stop you. If you know this is the role for you & you meet many, but not all, of our asks – we still want to hear from you! If there's anything we can do to help you to apply, email [email protected].

Our Purpose:

Help people love food, that loves them & the planet.

Our Values:

We don’t just focus on what we’re doing (we do a lot), but how we’re doing it. That big ‘how’ makes Pip & Nut unique. It gives us our edge.

We call it Squirrel Energy.

Squirrel Energy is at the centre of everything we do. Inside & outside The Nest. It’s what we value in our individual squirrels & how we want to be seen as a whole.

Our four values get into the nutty gritty of what squirrel energy is. Have a read:

  • All Paws Together: While we may be individual creatures, our team spirit is infectious.
  • Curious by Nature: Ears pricked at all times ready to discover something about ourselves, our shoppers, our products & the environment around us.
  • Make Every Nut Count: Us squirrels will find creative NO, INGENIOUS! Ways to get stuff done.
  • Take a Leap: For us, the ability to leap from one tree to another on branches that bend & flex is about being bold, agile & adaptable.

Oh nuts! It might seem obvious but there are a lot of nuts at The Nest. We're often testing, trialing or generally nibbling so if you have a severe nut allergy, please have a think about whether The Nest is the best place for you to be. Drop us a message if you need some more info.

Chat GPT? We get it. Job applications are tricky. AI platforms, like Chat GPT can be helpful, but pretty please with peanuts on top don't copy & paste an answer for your application. We have beady-eyes & will not accept anything that's obviously AI generated. We want to know the real you, not a robot. You've got this!

Now…what are you waiting for?
