Role Description The Editorial Reader is a part-time, volunteer position at The Lucknow Review, working closely with the Editor-in-Chief and editorial team. Readers evaluate incoming submissions across genres — including poetry, fiction, essays, translations, and visual art — and provide thoughtful, constructive recommendations to support editorial decision-making. Responsibilities include reading and assessing work, preparing concise editorial notes, participating in editorial discussions, and helping maintain an organized submissions process. This role offers the opportunity to contribute directly to the development of each issue while gaining hands-on, flexible experience in editorial practice.
Qualifications
- Strong skills in close reading, literary analysis, and critical evaluation of diverse texts and art
- Ability to write clear, concise editorial feedback and summaries for internal review
- Familiarity with contemporary literature
- Excellent organizational abilities, including managing submission queues, tracking decisions, and meeting editorial deadlines
- Effective communication and collaboration skills for working with editors, authors, and other team members
- Some prior experience with literary magazines or academic literary work is preferred
- Bachelor's degree (completed or in progress) in Literature, Creative Writing, Cultural Studies, or equivalent experience, is preferred
