Broadcast System Engineer Jobs in New York, NY at A-V Services Inc.
A-V Services is seeking a highly skilled Senior broadcast engineer with deep expertise in broadcast systems and IP-based equipment, including uncompressed and compressed video formats and multicast networking. As a key member of our Systems Engineering & Support group, you will be responsible for maintaining and supporting the core broadcast infrastructure and architecture at our Midtown campos, as well as providing remote support to other buildings. You will play a critical role in ensuring seamless broadcast operations, especially during live events, by addressing and resolving complex technical issues.
Major Responsibilities
- Oversee, support, and troubleshoot broadcast systems and IP-based equipment, including production routers, multiviewers, production switchers, IP codecs, and network switches.
- Provide advanced troubleshooting and resolution for complex technical issues to maintain operational standards and maximize uptime.
- Support live production environments, including control rooms, the event spaces.
- Collaborate with remote manufacture engineers, production teams, IT, operations, and internal customers/vendors.
- Install and configure equipment for content acquisition and distribution.
- Configure and maintain critical on-air systems to ensure reliable broadcast delivery.
- Lead software upgrades and system expansions to enhance infrastructure capabilities.
- Analyze and resolve problems in both software and hardware-based systems.
- Develop and maintain procedural documentation for system operations and troubleshooting.
- Train team members, fostering technical growth and knowledge sharing.
Required Skills & Knowledge
- Proven background in the broadcast and/or media industry.
- Strong knowledge of broadcast TV standards, workflows, and technologies related to routing, switching, encoding, audio processing, and distribution.
- Technical IT expertise in maintaining server-based digital video and audio control systems, graphics systems, automation systems, and associated software/hardware infrastructure.
- Hands-on experience with core routing and switching design, configuration, and troubleshooting.
- Proficiency with uncompressed and compressed video formats (SDI, SMPTE 2110, H.264, JPEG2000).
- Understanding of video stream metadata, including triggers, timecode user bits, and closed captioning.
- Familiarity with leading video/Audio and broadcast delivery solutions (e.g EVS, Ross, TAG, 7th Sense, Megapixel, Matrox, Riedel, PureLink, QSYS, and On-Hertz)
- Solid knowledge of IP networking and multicasting, including streaming media protocols (RTP, RTSP, UDP).
- Ability to work independently, creatively, and proactively in a fast-paced environment.
Experience & Education
- 5–10 years of broadcast IT or engineering experience required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Engineering, or a related field preferred.
Significant field experience may be considered in lieu of a college degree
