Overview
YouTube Creative Strategist – Paid Internship Jobs in Australia at Compound One
About the job
Company Description
Compound One helps finance, wealth, and property businesses grow through YouTube content that actually performs. Our clients include financial advisors, buyers agents, mortgage brokers, investing educators, and fintech founders. We're not making boring talking-head videos. We're building the #1 YouTube strategy and content studio in Australia.
We're looking for one to two sharp writers who want to be obsessed with learning YouTube.
Why This Role Exists
We built New Money into one of the biggest investing YouTube channels in the world, with over 1M+ subscribers. Our co-founder, Brandon, is the face and creative brain behind it, and that same thinking now powers everything we do for our clients. We're bringing on one to two interns to join our creative team, learn how we think about strategy, packaging, and scripting, and develop into world-class YouTube strategists in your own right.
This is a 3-6 month paid internship, with a clear path to a permanent role for those who deliver. You won't be on your own — you'll have support around you, including design resources, so you can focus on the strategic and creative thinking rather than getting stuck in production.
This is an apprenticeship as much as it is a role. You'll learn things about YouTube strategy that almost nobody in Australia knows, because almost nobody in Australia has done what we've done. If you're serious about mastering this craft, there is no better place to be.
This isn't just a classroom though. You'll have real responsibility from day one.
What You'll Do
- Write. Titles that earn the click. Scripts that hook viewers and hold attention. Copy and packaging that makes people curious enough to watch. This is the core skill. If your writing doesn't make people stop scrolling, nothing else matters.
- Strategise. Develop YouTube strategy for client channels alongside Brandon. Study what's working, form opinions about why, and bring ideas that our clients wouldn't think of themselves.
- Direct thumbnail strategy. You won't necessarily be the one in Photoshop or Canva. But you'll be the one who knows what needs to be on the thumbnail, why, and how it pairs with the title to earn the click. You'll think about visual hierarchy, emotional triggers, curiosity gaps, and mobile readability. You'll brief the designer, review the output, and push for iterations until the packaging is right. This is a thinking and strategy skill, not a design skill. If you can also design the thumbnails yourself, that's a huge bonus, but it's not a requirement.
- Analyse. Own the performance loop. Track the data, report to clients, and turn analytics into decisions about what we create next.
- Contribute beyond YouTube. You'll also write content and copy across the Compound One brand. Website copy, proposals, social content, client-facing materials, outreach emails. If you can write a script that holds attention for 10 minutes, you can write a landing page that converts. We'll develop that muscle together.
What You Need to Bring
- You can write, and it shows. Scripts, hooks, titles, short-form copy. You know how to structure words that hold attention. This is the single most important thing.
- You're genuinely obsessed with YouTube. Not "interested in." You study the platform. You probably have opinions about retention curves and packaging. You might watch strategy breakdowns for fun. You want to get world-class at this.
- You're curious and proactive. You come to the table with ideas, not a blank stare. You don't wait for briefs. You notice things, dig into them, and bring what you find.
- You're comfortable with data. You can look at YouTube Analytics and translate numbers into actions. What's working, what's not, what to try next.
- You have high EQ. You can read a room, take feedback without ego, and make clients feel like they're in good hands.
- You're reliable and hungry. We're a small team but growing very fast and building something big. We need someone who shows up, follows through, and genuinely cares about getting better.
What You'll Learn
You'll learn how a team that built a 1M+ subscriber channel thinks about content strategy, from ideation through to packaging and performance analysis. You'll develop the ability to look at any channel and diagnose what's working and what isn't. You'll sharpen your writing across multiple formats, from long-form scripts to short-form hooks to persuasive brand copy. You'll build real client relationships and learn how to translate strategy into language that business owners understand and trust. And you'll have a portfolio of work on channels that people actually watch. We invest in people who want to get better, not people who pretend they already are.
What You Don’t Need
- A massive personal following
- Agency experience or a fancy degree
- Years of experience in financial services (we'll teach you the space)
The Details
- Type: Paid internship, 3-6 months (with a path to permanent for strong performers)
- Location: Remote within Australia
How to Apply
Four things.
1. A cover letter: Not a formality. We'll actually read it, so make it count. Tell us why this role, why Compound One, and what you'd bring.
2. A thumbnail and title brief: Pick any existing YouTube video in the finance or business space. Rewrite the title to improve it and write a brief for what the redesigned thumbnail should look like: what's on it, why, and how it works with your new title to earn the click. If you can also mock up or design the thumbnail yourself, include that too, but the strategic thinking is what matters.
3. A short video (under 2 minutes): Tell us what YouTube channel(s) you've been studying lately and why. Loom or anything else you like.
4. Your CV.
