Volunteer Press & Media Relations Lead Jobs in Manchester, UK at S-RC Cup

The S-RC Cup is looking for a volunteer Press Relations Officer to help tell the story of one of the UK’s fastest-growing STEM motor sport competitions.

We’re ideally looking for a university student studying Public Relations, Journalism, Communications, Marketing, Media, English or a similar subject who wants to build real-world experience working with a national organisation.

As a volunteer Press Relations Officer, you’ll help increase awareness of the S-RC Cup by writing engaging press releases, identifying newsworthy stories, and building relationships with local and national media. Around our events, you’ll help coordinate press coverage, pitch stories to journalists, and work to maximise media exposure.

This is a flexible volunteer role with no fixed hours, making it easy to fit around university. We’re simply looking for someone who’s enthusiastic, reliable, enjoys writing, and wants to build an impressive portfolio while making a genuine impact.

You’ll have the opportunity to:

  • Write and distribute press releases for major announcements and events.
  • Liaise with local, regional and national media.
  • Help develop media campaigns around competitions and milestones.
  • Work closely with the S-RC Cup leadership team.
  • Build a strong portfolio of published work and media coverage.
  • Receive a reference for future employment or postgraduate applications.
  • Attend S-RC Cup events and meet students, volunteers and industry partners.

Like many early-stage community-focused organisations, we’re operating on an extremely limited budget, so this is currently a volunteer opportunity. However, you’ll gain hands‑on experience that would be difficult to find elsewhere, working on real campaigns with real media coverage.

If you’re interested, we’d love to hear from you. Please send a message with a little about yourself, what you’re studying, and why you’d like to get involved with the S-RC Cup.

AI Usage is permitted for this role, provided a “human-in-loop” approach is taken, where AI is used to support a human workflow, and not as a standalone.

Company Description The S-RC Cup is a unique motorsports-inspired competition that encourages young people to tackle real-world engineering challenges. Participants design, build, and race their own remote-controlled vehicles, gaining practical experience and demonstrating their creativity. The program serves as a platform for emerging innovators to develop technical and teamwork skills while connecting with peers who share similar interests. By turning ideas into functioning vehicles, the S-RC Cup helps participants build confidence and prepare for future careers in engineering and technology.

It is where many members of the next generation of engineers begin their journey.
