About The Role
Spiegelworld is looking for a Studio Assistant resident to join our team at Spinning Plates in Nipton, CA. The primary responsibility of this position is to support the Studio Director in development and production of the current work load. The selected candidate will work in Nipton, CA, where they will live on-site in provided housing, fully immersing themselves in the creation and innovation of Spiegelworld’s signature tableware. The Studio Assistant resident reports to the Studio Director.
What You’ll Do
- Participate in the development and production of current work which will mainly consist of slip casting tableware.
- Assist with tile making, lighting design, woodfire scheduling and firing.
- Actively engage in our antiracist commitment and internal practices by participating in offered learnings, engaging in conversations around Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Accessibility, and helping us maintain a safe and welcoming workspace.
- Create a work environment which promotes teamwork, performance feedback, recognition, mutual respect, and employee satisfaction.
- Other duties as assigned by your manager.
All duties are to be performed in accordance with departmental and Spiegelworld policies, practices, and procedures.
What You Bring
- Experience in ceramics production and kiln operations.
- Strong understanding of glaze chemistry, material sourcing, and production scaling.
- Proven ability to design and create high-quality, functional tableware at scale.
- Ability to work independently in a remote setting (Nipton, CA)
- Willingness to adapt, experiment, and push creative boundaries in a fast-paced, theatrical, and ever-evolving environment.
- Successful background check clearance prior to hire
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as scheduled/needed.
- Must have valid work authorization for the US.

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in varying temperature conditions in a ceramics studio.
