What a Social Video Editor does at WPP Production:

As a Social Video Editor, you’ll be responsible for building and delivering video edits in service of the social team at one of our largest client engagements. You’ll help drive online engagement with their target audiences by shaping and delivering engaging stories using social content best practices, great creative taste, and collaboration with our wider team.

Why this role is important

Social is where our client’s brand shows up most often, most publicly, and most personally with their audiences. It is the front door to their brand, and sometimes the first/only impression audiences will have of the brand in a given week. Our client expects significant ROI from their social channels, and your editorial choices will directly shape whether the client hits those goals.

Success in this role requires:

  • “Social” Intelligence: crafting social content demands an understanding of the nuances of how content shows up in social channels, online culture, memes, trends, newsworthiness, and an instinct for what builds brand affinity. It requires someone who understands that a 9-second vertical edit requires just as much storytelling instinct as a 2-minute video. Social intelligence also means growing into the client’s culture – it’s not about perfection on day one, it’s about having the resilience to try, take feedback, grow into the role, and build a lasting relationship with the client.
  • Balancing collaboration and independence: You’ll be a direct partner of our client’s social team but working inside our agency ecosystem. This role will require confidence in your ability to deliver work without clients dictating every edit choice.
  • Flexibility and Organization: “High volume and short turnaround times” mean different things at different times. This might mean you have just minutes following big news developments to edit a clip, hours to build a story, or days to create a chorus of 20 videos. Your responsibility will be adjusting your craft to the client’s needs. Creativity and speed will balance as you learn what works and what doesn’t.
  • Quick study: the content can sometimes be dense with business terminology, so being a quick study on the client’s business will make all the difference in making the best editorial decisions on what to keep and what to exclude. You’ll spend your down time learning everything you can about their business and the social strategies at play.

Responsibilities:

  • Edit video from various sources for use online, and in other mediums as needed.
  • Manage transcriptions, build scripts and make editorial judgements on best takes, content to include, and use of graphics and music.
  • Collaborate directly with clients, producers, project managers, account leads and others to manage feedback, revisions, approvals and processes.
  • Minor color correction, basic audio mixing, captioning, converting, and exporting files
  • “Light” graphics creation and movement (basic use of photoshop for lower thirds, intro cards, basic movement parameters)
  • Self-directed prioritization of workflows based on client needs
  • Work within our established processes, tools, and techniques

Requirements:

  • A minimum of 3 years of professional experience with short-form social storytelling via video editing, content creation, or equivalent experience.
  • Strong “editorial” judgement in social content and/or business-to-business content, particularly in finance, or technology sectors, but open to other work from ambitious social natives who can impress with their experience building audiences or movement online. You need to know what works well online.
  • Proficient editor with Adobe Premiere, limited proficiency in After Effects, Photoshop, Audition, and other Adobe creative suite tools
  • Proficient with Microsoft tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and the aptitude to learn other similar workflow tools (Smartsheets, Adobe Workfront, etc.)
  • Other post-production skills: ability to perform minor text animation, place graphics and lower thirds, generate basic graphics, basic audio mix, and basic color correction, use transcription and captioning tools, understanding of codecs and compression software (Media Encoder)
  • Bias towards maintaining positive, friendly interpersonal relationships with those giving you creative feedback, with the ability to be calm, confident, and positive in difficult situations.
  • Ability to multi-task and juggle various projects simultaneously in fast-paced environment with tight deadlines
  • Ability to reasonably organize your time and working materials, keep trackers updated, and communicate status of projects effectively.
  • Flexible and adaptable, ability to thrive in team environments where communication and collaboration are key

Ontario Pay Range

$45,000—$95,000 CAD
