About the Role
We are looking for a Senior Producer with experience in news, political coverage, investigative and long‑form audio journalism, and podcasting. The role requires working on multiple projects in parallel, with tight deadlines, covering major news stories across CBC’s portfolio.
Key responsibilities include:
- Producing a weekly news podcast in audio and video
- Contributing to development of news podcasting feeds
- Pitching and validating show and series level podcast ideas
- Overseeing teams of creatives in various roles
- Creating uniquely Canadian news content for a crowded podcast environment
- Leading editorial discussions around podcast‑first story selection
- Helping teams write for the ear and conduct long‑form audio interviews
- Vetting scripts and story‑editing
- Ensuring best practices for podcast packaging and promotion
- Distilling big stories into emotional touchstones that compel podcast episodes
- Writing and structuring series and season arcs with detailed outlines
- Writing and structuring episode scripts as needed
- Managing multiple deadlines and ensuring parallel teams meet delivery schedules
- Presenting content on‑mic as needed
- Liaising with Podcast Audience Growth, Mar Comms and Publicity teams for amplification
- Casting and coaching on‑mic talent, including hosts and storytellers
- Editing, mixing and publishing weekly podcast episodes; providing guidance on complex mixes
- Making data‑driven decisions about editorial focus, packaging and promotion
- Executing CBC News Podcasts’ strategy for audio and video content centered on Canadian audiences and perspectives
About You
- Track record of producing audio storytelling and passion for podcasting
- Experience leading creative teams under tight deadlines
- Data‑driven, using metrics to guide development and growth
- News savvy, following national and international events and politics, ready to respond to developing news
- Knowledgeable of CBC’s Journalistic Standards and Practices or similar
- Skilled storyteller who writes and produces for the ear, with experience across platforms
- Ability to build scenes, create tension, and reveal resonant moments; experience gathering and editing audio elements
- Critical thinker comfortable with daily news and long‑form narrative formats
- Thrives in high‑pressure, deadline‑driven environments and public scrutiny
- Builds positive, collaborative, transparent, respectful and inclusive relationships
- Values accountability within teams
Location and Schedule
Primary location:
Broadcast Centre, 205 Wellington St. W., Toronto, Ontario, M5V 3G7.
Full‑time, Monday to Friday, daytime hours with flexibility; hybrid role – workplace at least three days a week.
