Art Department Manager / Senior Graphic Artist

Department: All Brands within the Tank Stream Design family

Direct Reports: Graphic Artists (Internal & Offshore), Freelancers

Primary Purpose of Position

This role is responsible for the creation of original, high-quality graphic artwork, while also supporting the day-to-day coordination and workflow of the Art Department.

The position blends hands-on graphic art and illustration with team coordination, approvals, and production oversight, ensuring all artwork is delivered on time, on brief, and production-ready across all brands and product categories.

Working closely with Brand Managers and internal teams, you will contribute to the development of seasonal graphics while maintaining strong oversight of systems, processes, and artwork execution, ensuring consistency, accuracy, and efficiency across all outputs.

Scope

The role is responsible for both design execution and operational support across all brands including:

  • Apparel, headwear, accessories, and hard goods
  • Seasonal ranges, SMUs, and special make-up programs
  • Global and regional customer requirements

This includes creating original artwork, managing artwork workflows, and supporting production processes across multiple product categories.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

Graphic Art & Design

  • Create original graphic artworks from concept through to final production-ready files
  • Develop vector and hand-drawn illustrations across multiple styles
  • Design placement prints, name drops, and repeat/yardage artworks for apparel and accessories
  • Contribute to seasonal ranges aligned with brand direction
  • Rework and refine artwork based on feedback from Brand Managers and leadership
  • Support branding assets including logos, labels, packaging, and graphic applications

Artwork Sign Off, Sampling & Production

  • Prepare and deliver final artwork files in correct formats for suppliers and production
  • Create and manage job bags, including separated artwork files (seps)
  • Review and approve strike-offs and samples, both in-house and offshore
  • Manage name drop builds and proof for accuracy (spelling, kerning, layout)
  • Support DTG, screen print, UV and other print processes, ensuring artwork is production-ready

Workflow & Operational Support

  • Support the coordination of daily workflow across the art department
  • Assist in managing timelines from concept through to production
  • Work within internal systems including PLM, portal approvals, and file management
  • Ensure all artwork files are correctly named, stored, and maintained
  • Assist with maintaining structured filing systems and archiving final artwork

Portal Approvals & Offshore Coordination

  • Review and approve artwork through internal portals, ensuring accuracy and readiness for production
  • Provide feedback and direction to offshore graphic artists
  • Prioritise urgent and high-volume orders and ensure deadlines are met
  • Check artwork accuracy including templates, spelling, and layout before approval

Project & Program Support

  • Support SMUs and special projects from briefing through to production
  • Assist in new product development from a graphics perspective
  • Apply graphics to existing products and support seasonal updates
  • Assist with catalogue preparation and artwork updates
  • Support end-of-season file management and archiving

Quality Control & Detail Management

  • Maintain a high level of attention to detail across all artwork outputs
  • Double check templates, file naming, style numbers, and artwork placements
  • Ensure consistency across all brands and product categories
  • Review final artwork prior to production to ensure quality standards are met

PLM & Data Management

  • Update and maintain PLM systems, including artwork status and production details
  • Manage data accuracy including print methods, colour counts, and product information
  • Support reporting and information tracking for production and design teams

Team & Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Collaborate closely with Graphic Artists, Brand Managers, and Production teams
  • Participate in weekly WIP meetings and team check-ins
  • Support communication between design, production, and sales teams
  • Maintain strong working relationships across internal and external stakeholders

Skills & Experience

  • 5+ years’ experience in graphic design, illustration, or textile design
  • Strong ability to create original artwork across multiple styles and mediums
  • Proven experience in apparel graphics, placement prints, and yardage design
  • Solid understanding of print production processes (DTG, screen print, etc.)
  • Highly organised with strong attention to detail
  • Experience working within structured workflows and systems (PLM experience advantageous)
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite; Procreate highly regarded
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
