Work at CBC/Radio‑Canada

At CBC/Radio‑Canada, we create content that informs, entertains and connects Canadians on multiple platforms. Our successes and accomplishments are driven by embodying and upholding values, which include creativity, integrity, inclusiveness and relevance.

Do you think you have the ability and drive to keep up with this exciting, ever‑changing industry? Whether it be in front of the camera, on air, online or behind the scenes, you would be joining a team that thrives on making connections and telling stories that are important to Canadians.

This is a one‑year temporary full‑time position requiring full‑time on‑site presence.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the executive producer, you’ll be reporting, producing and presenting news on London Morning, the region’s number one radio morning program, and contributing stories to digital platforms across the day. You will have on‑air experience presenting newscasts, and engaging with audiences through appropriate platforms.

You’ve worked in the field, and you bring your experience and journalistic judgement to the newsroom to help support the overall team.

You’ll be key to guiding editorial decisions, as well as tapping into local communities to give big and small news makers a voice. You’re a breaking news junkie who likes to experiment with different storytelling formats and technology to best suit audience needs.

You listen and know that no detail is too small to get right. You ask why — a lot. You also love the craft of writing and have experience producing work for both broadcast and digital formats. You doggedly pursue stories and feel comfortable working on your own. You also know that news is collaborative and you want to work as part of a team to provide the best content to the audience.

This role is for someone who likes a high‑paced, early morning environment. You must be interested in learning how to operate a console in a radio studio and be comfortable going to air in a live environment, while meeting multiple deadlines. You may not know all of CBC’s tools but you’re technically adept and willing to learn.

Key Tasks

  • Pitch and chase original ideas that set the agenda in London.
  • Interview sources and write news stories for broadcast and digital platforms.
  • Package, prepare and deliver radio newscasts and bulletins adhering to style and format.
  • Gather, capture, edit and manipulate content using current technology.
  • Edit stories written by team members when needed.
  • Identify potential legal issues and journalistic policy violations.
  • Ability to respond in a breaking situation, and comfortable working under the daily pressures of a busy newsroom.
  • Gather audio and video material in the field, edit and package it to share with the audience on any required platforms.

Your Profile

  • Experience and proven ability to write and voice concise and critical stories for radio.
  • Experience in the field as a reporter with examples of enterprise journalism.
  • Experience working in a live broadcast environment.
  • Demonstrated connection to and knowledge of London and region.
  • Proven ability to work in a diverse team.
  • Technical ability to self‑operate radio control‑booth equipment to record news reports and scripts.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • High energy and enthusiasm towards journalism.
  • University degree or equivalent.
  • Five years of experience in news media.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license as well as a driving record that meets the minimum requirements of CBC/Radio‑Canada’s insurance company.
  • Ability to work a variety of shifts including early mornings.
