Cooley is seeking a Regional Marketing Manager (Mainland China) to join the Marketing & Business Development team.

Position Summary: Under the supervision of the Director of Marketing and Business Development, Asia the Regional Marketing Manager based in Shanghai will work closely with primarily the resident Shanghai, Beijing and Hong Kong partners, as well as the Asia partner and attorney team and other marketing team members to support largely the firm’s Greater China marketing and business development activities. The primary goal is to support marketing and business development across the APAC region, in building Cooley brand and profile in our target markets and helping to identify and successfully capture new business opportunities. The range of activity will cover the marketing and BD spectrum including client expansion programs, pitches and proposals, events, sponsorships, and BD pipeline management. This position is responsible for working with attorneys across Asia, the US and Europe with active practices in the region to respond to marketing and business development requests in a manner consistent with the firm’s overall strategy and to advise the marketing function on nuances within the region. Specific duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

Position Responsibilities:

  • Manage all aspects of the regional marketing activities on all business development activities
  • In conjunction with senior marketing professionals and the partners and attorneys in our Asia offices, develop and execute a marketing plan
  • In conjunction with the Director of Marketing and Business Development, Asia, develop and implement short- and long-term sales plans and tactics that result in measurable growth of business
  • Support business development initiatives, in collaboration with the Director of Marketing and Business Development, Asia for attorneys focused on opportunities in Greater China
  • Support RFPs/RFIs and other pitches and proposals with potential revenue gain, inclusive of researching and compiling competitive intelligence and reports on potential clients
  • Assist partners with developing and maintaining client relationships by identifying and prioritizing specific client opportunities
  • Strengthen existing client relationship through various touchpoints, including identifying and sending appropriate client gifts for culturally appropriate occasions and sending deal trophies
  • Manage pitch and proposal pipeline information in collaboration with the Director of Marketing and Business Development, Asia. Establish accurate reporting systems for the tracking of and return on marketing initiatives, and new client and cross-selling opportunities
  • In conjunction with the Director of Marketing and Business Development, Asia, assess, analyze, target and initiate efforts to cultivate new clients for the Firm and expand Cooley’s cross-selling opportunities
  • Identify trends in the marketplace
  • Effectively articulate the value proposition of Firm’s services and the Firm’s differentiation in its markets to targeted clients and prospects
  • In collaboration with the Director of Marketing & Business Development, Asia, develop, execute and support follow up of Cooley hosted events
  • Manage business sponsorships and activities tied to local industry and business organizations. Arrange for appropriate staffing/presence at local engagement events, including as-needed travel to events within the region
  • Manage posts on appropriate local social media platforms to promote notable firm activities and content.
  • Champion firm branding and related standards on creative services projects in Asia.
  • Identify and support networking, speaking, and media opportunities in conjunction with senior communications manager and outside public relations agency
  • Develop and maintain marketing materials for Greater China -specific collateral.
  • Steer data using the appropriate firm technologies (Web, CRM, SCORE, Intranet, etc.)
  • Research strategic market opportunities and successfully lead the cross-selling of existing services.
  • Marketing budget – develop an annual marketing budget for relevant Greater China offices and related practice groups. Track and report on marketing spend through the year, including budget authorisations, necessary re-forecasting, and accommodation of unscheduled budget items
  • Role model the use of the CRM tool
  • Provide marketing and business development orientation for all new hires in Asia and create cooley.com bios for fee earners as needed.
  • All other duties as assigned and required

Skills & Experience

Required:

  • After orientation at Cooley LLP, exhibit proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite, iManage and other firm applications
  • Proficient in the use of Salesforce as Cooley’s CRM tool
  • Proficient in managing corporate WeChat accounts, including approving posts
  • Ability to work extended and/or weekend hours, as required
  • Ability to travel, as required
  • 5+ years direct applicable marketing-related experience
  • Fluent in English and Mandarin (both speaking and written)

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Significant prior experience in marketing organizations. Depth of understanding of the Greater China region
  • Experience with CRM programs
