About the Role
The Project Director / General Manager leads the strategic, financial, and operational performance of Entro’s New York studio. It is a billable, hands-on role: you direct projects directly while running the office owning its profitability, growing its client base, and building its team.
This is an entrepreneurial leadership position with operational discipline at its core. You will shape studio culture, uphold quality and delivery standards, pursue and win the right work, and strengthen client relationships all while contributing to Entro’s global success. You will carry a strong component of Project Directorship, working day-to-day through project managers, creative managers, and coordinators alongside the wider creative team.
What You’ll Own
The role is built on four pillars:
1. Financial Management & Studio P&L
- Own the New York studio P&L -delivering revenue and margin targets set in the strategic plan and contributing to global financial objectives.
- Lead budgeting, forecasting, and resource planning to keep the studio financially healthy and growing sustainably.
- Ensure assigned projects achieve a minimum 20% profit margin, with regular forecasting to protect targets, close gaps, and pull work forward.
- Support AR collections, keeping at least 80% of outstanding AR under 90 days, and ensure timely, accurate billing.
- Negotiate contract and scope changes that affect schedules, deliverables, and budgets.
- Partner with the other studios on pursuits, resourcing, and direction to meet Entro’s overall strategic and profitability goals.
2. Operations, Utilization & Project Delivery
- Meet or exceed personal and team utilization targets.
- Ensure project management excellence, accountability, and consistent delivery across all work.
- Streamline delivery workflows, team structure, and governance to improve efficiency and scalability.
- Identify, assess, and mitigate project risks to minimize disruption and liability.
- Exercise sound, autonomous decision-making in the day-to-day management of the New York office.
- Provide oversight on project budgets and schedules, and uphold quality and consistency of deliverables across every project.
3. Business Development & Client Growth
- Drive 10% annual organic revenue growth through client retention, upselling, and expanded services.
- Proactively identify and pursue new opportunities in target sectors, in partnership with the Business Development team.
- Build and nurture lasting client relationships that reinforce Entro’s trusted brand position.
- Maintain regular touchpoints with current and past clients to secure ongoing and future work.
- Represent and grow the Entro name in the market through outreach, travel, and new connections.
- Support the marketing team in developing proposals and generating business opportunities.
4. Team Leadership, Strategy & Innovation
- Build, lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team, fostering accountability, collaboration, and growth.
- Own HR and people management for the studio, including reviews and professional-development goals.
- Inspire and cultivate a positive, inclusive culture that attracts and retains talent.
- Contribute to long-term planning and strategic decisions, balancing short-term performance with long-term growth.
- Align studio systems and delivery practices with the Entro vision.
- Champion innovation pilots and a culture of continuous improvement and knowledge sharing.
What You Bring
- Proven experience in studio, operational, or business leadership ideally in design, architecture, or the creative industries.
- Demonstrated success managing a studio or office P&L and meeting or exceeding revenue and margin goals.
- Minimum 6 years as a Design or Project Director on large, complex built-environment projects – ideally including wayfinding and branded environments, exhibit, or retail design, from concept through post-construction.
- A portfolio of successful projects delivered in the past 5 years as a Design/Project Manager or Project Director.
- An established track record of building and maintaining senior-level client relationships.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and mentoring skills, with the ability to foster accountability and team growth.
- Strategic thinking balanced with operational discipline and strong problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication – reports, briefing notes, presentations, and client liaison.
- A commitment to continuous learning, staying current with industry trends, technologies, and best practices.
- PMP designation an asset.
Salary Range: 140,000 – 160,000
