Department: Worship & Production (Center for the Arts support)

Reports to: Worship Pastor

Position Summary

The Production Director is a full-time ministry and leadership role responsible for creative production, technical operations, volunteer development, and project management to elevate weekend worship services and Center for the Arts programming. This role combines hands-on operation (audio, video, lighting, media playback), systems improvement, event technical planning, and volunteer discipleship to ensure productions intentionally point people to Jesus, support Next Steps pathways, and build community through the arts.

Key Responsibilities

Creative & Planning Support

  • Partner with creative and pastoral staff in creative planning sessions for sermon series; attend programming and staff meetings.
  • Ensure production and creative choices intentionally support the church’s vision, Next Steps, and discipleship pathways.
  • Participate in discovery and planning meetings for Center for the Arts events and other venue programming; prioritize community engagement and accessibility.

Weekend & Event Production

  • Lead technical and creative production for weekend services and CFTA events: set up and maintain show files on the digital console, run ProPresenter (worship and sermon slides), design and execute lighting cues, and mix multitracks.
  • Support onsite technical execution for special events and midweek gatherings (men’s/women’s Bible studies, Prime, etc.); ensure services are welcoming and family-friendly.

Large-Event Project Management (Center for the Arts Events)

  • Serve as project manager and lead producer for the four major annual community-theatre-style events, taking full ownership of auditorium productions and onsite execution.
  • Manage all auditorium production elements: coordinate and supervise contractors for audio, video, and lighting (AVL); ensure contractor deliverables and technical requirements are met.
  • Oversee set changeovers and stage management for large events: plan and execute load-in, rigging, scene/set changes, and strike/load-out in coordination with volunteers and hired crews.

Rehearsal & Volunteer Leadership

  • Attend midweek rehearsals to provide oversight, training, and mentorship for volunteers; occasionally operate audio, video, or lighting as needed.
  • Schedule and manage volunteers in Planning Center; recruit, interview, onboard, train, and conduct quarterly 1:1s.
  • Develop volunteers spiritually and technically—use Team Link/on-ramp processes to integrate volunteers into discipleship pathways and LifeGroups.
  • Foster team care and appreciation; maintain clean, safe, and organized production spaces.

Media & Content Management

  • Create sermon slides, select motion backgrounds, and edit song lyrics for worship services.
  • Edit, upload, and publish podcast and YouTube content; manage media workflows, archiving, and version control to ensure messages are clear and ministry-focused.
  • Maintain media inventories and ensure proper documentation of internal processes and SOPs.

Systems & Technical Improvement

  • Drive systems improvements (virtual playback, rehearsal recording, RF/connectivity, workflow optimizations); document processes and maintain inventory.
  • Coordinate equipment procurement, preventative maintenance, and vendor/contractor relationships as needed.

Day in the Life Profile

A typical day may include collaborating on sermon/series planning, updating show files on the digital console, coaching volunteers during rehearsal, running or troubleshooting audio/video/lighting for weekend services or a CFTA event, managing timelines and logistics for upcoming community theatre productions, coordinating contractors and set changeovers in the auditorium, creating sermon slides and selecting motion backgrounds, editing and publishing media content, and implementing improvements to workflows or equipment. Flexibility, strong project management, spiritual leadership, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills are essential.

Qualifications

  • Mature and growing Christian who models Christlike character and priorities; committed to spiritual leadership of the production team.
  • 5–10 years of production leadership or senior technical experience in live worship, theatre, or events.
