Music Adjunct Instructor – Live Sound and Audio Technician (TEMPORARY)
Diablo Valley College is seeking an adjunct faculty member in Live Sound and Audio Technician to teach courses in live sound reinforcement, audio systems, and performance mixing. Instruction may include signal flow, microphones, signal processing, monitoring, troubleshooting, room acoustics, and mixing live performances in a variety of genres.
All instructors must complete DVC’s Becoming an Effective Online Instructor (BEOI) course or an approved equivalent prior to teaching any online course or course with an online component.
Responsibilities
- Provide instruction in accordance with established curriculum, course outlines, and class schedules.
- Create and maintain an environment that emphasizes learning, encourages free discussion of ideas and critical thinking.
- Evaluate student progress, grades, and student work.
- Meet with students outside of class.
- Maintain appropriate professional conduct and ethics.
- Maintain current knowledge in the subject matter areas.
- Fulfill professional responsibilities of a part‑time/temporary faculty member.
- Maintain accurate academic records.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Music discipline: Master’s in music OR Bachelor’s in music AND Master’s in humanities OR the equivalent.
- Commercial Music discipline: Any bachelor’s degree or higher AND two years of professional experience. If the applicant has a master’s degree, professional experience is required.
- Any associate’s degree AND six years of professional experience related to teaching assignment.
Desirable Qualifications
- Professional experience in live sound reinforcement, audio systems operation, or concert/event sound.
- Demonstrated knowledge of signal flow, microphones, signal processing, stage monitoring, and mixing consoles.
- Experience diagnosing and troubleshooting live sound problems.
- Understanding of room acoustics and sound interaction in various performance environments.
- Experience teaching or training students in commercial music, music technology, or live audio applications.
- Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds.
