Position: Media Archivist Intern (Summer 2026).
The Media Archivist Intern will assist WKRG‑TV team members in processing and preserving the 70+ year legacy of News 5 coverage, providing greater access to a broad and deep wealth of recorded local stories for use by producers and enjoyment by the general public.
Responsibilities
This internship involves significant contribution to the organization and preservation of our collections, establishing best practices to maximize accessibility and usage of decades of historic audio‑visual archive materials. Tasks include:
- Organization and dubbing of ¾‑inch, Beta, 1‑inch, 2‑inch videotapes, 16 mm film, and still images
- Detailed logging of assets and creation of data templates in the archive management system
- Regular meetings with journalists and team members to provide progress reports on the preservation project
- Identifying interesting, engaging material for possible inclusion in news stories, specials, documentaries, and other programs
Qualifications
- Previous experience and training in the proper techniques for handling, inspecting, transferring, inventorying, cataloging, and preserving photographs, film, video tapes, and other audio‑visual materials in permanent collections
- Understanding and capability in proper tagging of material and entry and management of metadata related to materials in the permanent collection
