Founded in 1988, the National Eczema Association (NEA) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and the largest patient advocacy organization serving the over 31 million Americans who live with eczema and those who care for them. NEA provides programs and resources to elevate the diverse lived experience of eczema, and help patients and caregivers understand their disease, actively engage in their care, find strength in one another– and improve their lives. Additionally, NEA advances critical eczema research and partners with key stakeholders to ensure the patient voice is represented and valued in education, care and treatment decision making.

Job Summary:

The Manager, Creative & Design is a key member of the Marketing & Communications team, responsible for leading the development, design, production, and management of creative assets that support the National Eczema Association's strategic priorities. Based on the marketing strategy set by the Senior Director, Marketing & Communications, this person will partner with program departments to understand goals, audiences, timelines, tactics, and measures of success and will ensure the timely execution of high-quality creative deliverables across all channels.

As NEA's primary creative professional, the Manager, Creative & Design is responsible for both creative strategy and hands-on design execution. This individual serves as the organization's lead graphic designer and brand steward, ensuring all materials are visually compelling, accessible, audience-centered, and aligned with NEA's brand standards.

This full-time position is FLSA exempt and eligible for remote work. Some travel may be required for in person NEA meetings.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Serve as NEA's primary graphic designer and creative lead, responsible for the concepting, design, production, and delivery of creative assets across all organizational initiatives.
  • Design and produce high-quality creative assets that support marketing, communications, education, advocacy, research, fundraising, corporate engagement, community engagement, and event initiatives across digital, print, and web platforms.
  • Create graphics, infographics, illustrations, presentations, reports, event materials, promotional collateral, annual reports, and other branded assets that effectively communicate NEA's mission and impact.
  • Maintain and evolve brand guidelines, templates, asset libraries, and creative best practices to ensure consistency across all organizational communications.
  • Create and maintain creative projects, timelines, assets, and workflows within Atlassian (Jira and related tools).
  • Participate in regular planning meetings with program leads and Marketing & Communications leadership to understand project goals, audiences, timelines, tactics, and success metrics.
  • Manage incoming creative requests and briefs, ensuring projects are appropriately scoped, prioritized, and executed.
  • Monitor and advance creative projects through completion, proactively identifying and resolving bottlenecks.
  • Ensure timely delivery of creative assets and maintain clear communication regarding project status and deadlines.
  • Coordinate and oversee NEA's Digital Asset Management program.
  • Partner with teams across the organization, including Research, Advocacy, Community Engagement, Seal of Acceptance, Philanthropy, Corporate Engagement, Healthcare Professional Engagement, and Events.
  • Consult with stakeholders to identify creative opportunities that advance organizational goals and enhance audience engagement.
  • Coordinate with external vendors, freelancers, agencies, printers, photographers, and production partners as needed.
  • Manage organizational and departmental print projects from concept through production.
  • Oversee branded merchandise, promotional materials, and swag production to ensure quality and brand consistency.
  • Ensure creative assets adhere to accessibility standards, inclusive design principles, and organizational quality standards.
  • Consult with the Senior Director, Marketing & Communications as strategic direction and prioritization decisions are required.
  • Stay informed about design trends, emerging technologies, nonprofit marketing practices, and audience engagement strategies.

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to work independently without close oversight, take initiative, and manage multiple tasks and projects with differing, and at times changing, priorities and timelines
  • Excellent analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
  • Effective verbal, non-verbal, and written communication skills, including strong collaboration and active listening abilities
  • Familiarity with project management tools, including Atlassian products such as Jira and Confluence, is preferred
  • Knowledge of accessibility standards and inclusive design practices is preferred
  • Knowledge of eczema and/or a passion for empowering patients and caregivers
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with exceptional attention to detail

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communications, Marketing, Fine Arts, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Seven to ten years of strong, substantive experience in graphic design, creative services, brand management, marketing, or related field.
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating excellence across digital and print creative work.
  • Advanced proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud, including InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop.
  • Experience managing creative workflows and collaborating across departments
  • Experience working in a nonprofit, healthcare, patient advocacy, or mission-driven organization is preferred

Physical Requirements

This position is performed in a remote home office setting and/or in person in the NEA office and requires prolonged periods of computer use, participation in virtual meetings, and the ability to carry out essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
