Immersive Experience Designer – Creative Technology & Multimedia

St Leonard’s College is seeking a creative, technically capable and future-focused Immersive Experience Designer to help shape Lumina, our advanced interactive teaching, learning and event space.

We're looking for someone with experience in immersive media, motion graphics, digital storytelling, projection mapping, experience design, experiential design, digital installations, interactive exhibitions, multimedia production, audiovisual production, extended reality (XR), augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), virtual environments or creative technology who is excited by applying these skills in education.

This is a rare opportunity for a multimedia, immersive media, projection, digital content creator, multimedia designer, motion designer, projection designer, experience designer, creative technologist, interactive designer or creative technology specialist to design visually compelling experiences for a large-scale projection and surround-sound environment.

Working with teaching, marketing, events, IT and AV teams, you will transform curriculum concepts, community events and creative briefs into engaging immersive experiences that inspire students and audiences. This position will initially be offered as a 12-month fixed term contract, with a view to permanent employment. Applicants seeking full time or part time employment will be considered.

About the Role

Lumina is a flagship learning and event environment featuring three major projection surfaces, surround sound, 16 synchronised 4K projectors and flexible configurations for immersive whole-room synchronous experiences or asynchronous experiences across up to five zoned learning areas.

As the Immersive Experience Designer, you will:

  • Design and produce immersive digital content tailored to the Lumina environment, including multi-surface projections, projection mapping, multi-display environments, and spatial audio integration
  • Translate curriculum topics, event themes and creative concepts into engaging visual and interactive experiences
  • Optimise content for resolution, alignment, projection performance and audience impact.
  • Maintain a reusable content and asset library for Lumina
  • Support and empower staff to create their own immersive learning experiences through training, templates, coaching and the development of reusable digital resources
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of Lumina as a flagship immersive learning initiative

 

About you

You may come from immersive media, multimedia design, multimedia production, projection design, projection mapping, exhibition design, museum interpretation, digital installations, experiential design, creative technology, interactive media, motion graphics, video production, digital learning, live events, themed entertainment, audiovisual production or a related field.

You will be comfortable working at the intersection of creativity, technology and education, and able to turn ideas into polished, practical and engaging experiences with a passion for digital storytelling, visual communication and user experience.

To be successful in this position you will require:

  • Demonstrated experience creating multimedia, immersive, motion, projection, experiential or interactive digital content
  • Proficiency with relevant multimedia, design, video, animation, audio, interactive or AI-enabled content creation tools. Examples may include Adobe Creative Cloud (After Effects, Premiere Pro, Photoshop, Illustrator), Adobe Express, Canva, CapCut, iMovie, DaVinci Resolve, Descript, Studio One, Watchout V7, Blender, TouchDesigner, Unity, Unreal Engine, Resolume, MadMapper, Kling, Higgsfield and similar AI-powered creative tools
  • Experience working with large-scale projection systems, projection mapping, multi-screen environments, immersive spaces or interactive installations  
  • Strong visual storytelling and design skills with the ability to translate concepts and ideas into engaging immersive experiences for diverse audiences
  • Understanding of spatial audio, audio design and integration in immersive environments  
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills
  • Attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
  • A current Victorian Working with Children Check

Desirable experience includes:

  • Creating touch, sensor-based or real-time interactive experiences
  • Creative coding (eg TouchDesigner, Processing or p5.js)
  • 3D animation or modelling
  • Real-time graphics and rendering (e.g. Unity or Unreal Engine)
  • Spatial computing
  • Generative AI for creative production
  • Virtual production workflows
