We Invented the Weekend
We Invented the Weekend is a two-day free festival on 6-7 June 2026 in Salford Quays and Media City. The weekend was invented in Greater Manchester in 1843 when Salford Lyceum Director and workers’ rights activist Robert Lowes (also Sir Ian McKellen’s Great Grandfather) campaigned to win workers the right to leisure time on Saturday afternoons. The festival celebrates the joy of free time with sports, music, comedy, theatre, dance, workshops, talks, food, charity, wellness, crafts and more.

About the Role
The Festival Volunteer will support the delivery of festival activities, ensuring the event runs smoothly and providing assistance to participants and artists in Salford Quays and Media City. This on-site role includes offering guidance to visitors, assisting with event setup and logistics, providing support to staff and performers, and ensuring compliance with safety measures. The volunteer will play a key role in creating an engaging and welcoming atmosphere for all festival-goers.
Qualifications
- Strong interpersonal skills, including effective communication and a welcoming attitude.
- Ability to assist with event management tasks such as setup, logistics, and coordinating with staff and performers.
- Enthusiasm for arts and community events, alongside a proactive and adaptable approach to problem-solving.
- Prior volunteering or event assistance experience is a plus but not required.
- Capability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented and dynamic environment.
- Familiarity with public safety and compliance guidelines for handling events and crowds is desirable.
