THE ROLE
Design is where MÙMA's point of view takes shape. Every print, every silhouette, every piece that ends up on a customer, starts in this role.
This is a hands-on Designer position working closely with the Creative Director/Founder across the full design process. From concept through to final sample. You will be responsible for translating creative direction into product with real technical rigour, staying close to fabrication, construction, and factory communication throughout.
This is a 6-month contract, 4 days per week, with the option to extend, based on-site in Sydney. You will operate with a high degree of ownership from day one, this is not a role where sketches get handed off and forgotten. You follow the work through from sample to production.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Design & development
- Support the end-to-end design process across seasonal collections, research, concepting, sketching, fabrication, fittings, and final approvals
- Work across MÙMA's core signatures, print, silhouette, draping, and key separates
- Partner closely with the Creative Director/Founder to develop and maintain brand direction and consistency across all product
- Create detailed technical handovers for sampling, with accurate construction and finishing details
- Sample shipping coordination between agents and suppliers
Production and Fit
- Communicate directly with factories on production, sampling, and fit queries
- Support fittings with attention to silhouette, proportion, and fit; work with PD/patternmaking to resolve issues
- Review samples and provide clear, actionable development feedback
Sourcing & commercial
- Source and develop materials aligned to MÙMA's craftsmanship, sustainability, and margin frameworks
- Work with Merchandising on product mix and sell-through learnings to support a strong creative/commercial balance
- Deliver all work within the critical path and wholesale calendar
EXPERIENCE & SKILLS
Essential
- 5+ years' experience in a fashion design role, ideally within premium or designer womenswear
- Experience communicating directly with factories on production
- Advanced in Adobe Illustrator, with speed and accuracy in CAD execution
- Strong understanding of garment construction fundamentals
- Confident hand-sketching and ability to communicate ideas quickly
- Detail-driven, with strong follow-through and time management
- A self-starter – someone who identifies what needs doing and does it
Highly regarded
- Draping experience
- Experience within a premium or designer fashion brand
- Interest in sustainable and ethically sourced production
