The American Air Museum (AAM) is located in Duxford, Cambridgeshire, UK, while the AAMB staff is located in the U.S. The AAM stands as a memorial to the 30,000 members of the US Army Air Forces who died while flying from Britain during the Second World War. It tells the story of the people whose lives were shaped by American airpower over a century of war.

Position Purpose

The Campaign Manager is responsible for leading the day-to-day planning, coordination, and execution of the AAMB’s capital campaign. This role serves as the operational and strategic backbone of the campaign, managing all phases from principal and leadership gifts through the launch and execution of the public phase. In addition, the Campaign Manager will manage a portfolio of assigned campaign prospects and donors and will be directly responsible for their cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.

Working in close partnership with the Executive Director, senior leadership, volunteer campaign leadership, and key committees, the Campaign Manager ensures disciplined campaign planning, strong donor pipeline management, effective volunteer engagement, and consistent progress toward campaign goals. The Campaign Manager plays a critical role in building and advancing donor relationships – both directly and through volunteers – shaping cultivation and solicitation strategies, overseeing stewardship efforts, and maintaining accurate, actionable campaign data to support informed decision-making and successful outcomes.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

Campaign Planning & Execution

  • Lead the day-to-day planning, coordination, and execution of the capital campaign, ensuring disciplined implementation across all phases – from principal and leadership gifts through the public phase
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director, campaign counsel, and volunteer campaign leadership to develop, manage, and continuously refine the campaign strategy, plan, and timeline
  • Maintain a comprehensive campaign calendar and workplan to ensure timely execution, accountability, and progress toward established benchmarks and goals
  • Oversee and manage the approved campaign budget, including tracking actual expenditures against plan, managing vendor and consultant costs, monitoring variances, and ensuring disciplined stewardship of campaign resources in partnership with the Executive Director and Finance Manager

Donor Portfolio Management & Fundraising

  • Manage a defined portfolio of assigned campaign prospects and donors and be directly
  • Develop and execute individualized engagement strategies for portfolio donors, including solicitation planning, proposal development, and follow-up
  • Partner with the Executive Director by providing strategic, logistical, and analytical support for principal gift prospects while advancing assigned donor relationships independently
  • Prepare briefing materials, solicitation strategies, and donor communications to support effective asks by staff and volunteer leaders

Pipeline & Prospect Management

  • Oversee and actively manage a robust pipeline of campaign prospects, ensuring consistent movement through cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship stages
  • Conduct and coordinate prospect research to assess donor capacity, interests, and giving history, and translate insights into actionable solicitation strategies
  • Ensure accurate and up-to-date campaign and prospect data within the donor CRM, supporting data-driven decision-making and reporting

Volunteer & Committee Leadership

  • Support and manage campaign committees, including assisting with volunteer recruitment, coordinating meetings, setting agendas, and helping establish clear strategies and expectations
  • Train and support volunteer leaders on campaign best practices, donor engagement strategies, and solicitation approaches
  • Serve as a key liaison between staff and volunteer leadership to ensure alignment, momentum, and accountability

Monitoring, Reporting & Strategy Adjustment

  • Regularly evaluate campaign progress against goals and benchmarks and prepare clear, timely progress reports for staff and volunteer leadership
  • Identify risks, gaps, and opportunities within the campaign and recommend adjustments to strategy, pacing, or resource allocation as needed
  • Monitor campaign financial performance alongside fundraising progress, surface material variances or risks in a timely manner, and recommend adjustments to campaign tactics or pacing as needed to remain within approved budget parameters

Communications, Collateral & Events

  • Oversee the development, writing, and production of campaign materials and collateral, ensuring consistency with campaign strategy and messaging
  • Plan and coordinate campaign-related cultivation, recognition, and stewardship events and meetings in collaboration with internal staff and external partners, as appropriate

Stewardship & Donor Relations

  • Ensure timely, thoughtful donor acknowledgement and stewardship activities for campaign donors, reinforcing long-term engagement and confidence in the organization
  • Support a culture of excellent donor experience across all campaign touchpoints

Other Duties

  • Perform additional duties as assigned, contributing to a collaborative, high-performing team environment

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • A minimum of five years’ professional experience in fundraising with a proven record of success in meeting fundraising goals
  • Experience managing donor relationships with a track record of successfully closing five- and six-figure gifts
  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies including staff, board members, and donors with varying levels of philanthropic sophistication
  • Experience working with donor CRM software

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Direct experience supporting or managing a capital or comprehensive campaign
  • Raiser’s Edge experience preferred
  • Experience working in a fully remote environment
  • Experience partnering with senior executives and volunteer leadership on principal and leadership gift strategies

Location, Work Schedule & Availability

The AAMB welcomes applications from individuals residing in the following states: Alabama, Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and West Virginia. If offered the position, you must currently reside in one of abovementioned states upon hire, and maintain residence in that state or one of the other states identified above.

The Campaign Manager will work closely with U.S.-based staff, board members, and volunteer leaders, as well as with partners and stakeholders based in the United Kingdom. As such, the role requires flexibility to collaborate across time zones.

This is a fulltime, exempt position (40 hours per week). Core availability during standard U.S. business hours is expected, with flexibility required to support donor engagement, volunteer leadership, and meetings outside of normal hours, including occasional evenings or weekends.
