CAD / Print Apparel Designer

Position Overview
We are hiring two CAD / Apparel Designers to create directional print and pattern designs across kids' and women's wear categories for licensed and private label businesses. The ideal candidate will translate seasonal concepts into repeatable prints and technical CAD files, collaborate with product development and merchandising teams, and deliver commercially viable artwork for retail production. The ideal candidates have strong technical CAD skills, a great eye for trend and color, and experience working within high-volume, fast-turn retail environments.

This opportunity is hybrid in NYC, 40hrs/week with 50% in office / 50% remote; days and schedule are flexible within normal business hours. This opportunity will be 3 – 6 months to start, with the potential to extend and/or convert (Salary range up to $115,000) based on performance and business need. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop original print and pattern designs for kids and womenswear across seasonal collections, ensuring alignment with brand direction and merchandising strategies.
  • Create accurate CAD files and tech-ready artwork for print placement, repeat patterns, and colorways using Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and relevant CAD tools.
  • Translate trend research and seasonal concepts into commercially viable print stories, color palettes, and surface treatments.
  • Collaborate with design, product development, sourcing, and production teams to ensure artwork meets printability and fabrication requirements for licensed and private label lines.
  • Prepare technical spec sheets, colorways, and placement guides for vendors and mills; review digital pre-production samples and provide clear feedback.
  • Adapt artwork for multiple apparel categories and product types, maintaining scale, repeat, and composition integrity across garments.
  • Manage multiple projects and seasonal deadlines, maintaining organized art libraries and version control for all files.
  • Support licensing requirements by following approved art guidelines, submitting artwork for approvals, and ensuring compliance with brand standards.
  • Participate in trend forecasting, moodboard development, and seasonal concept presentations to internal stakeholders and partners.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Fashion Design, Textile Design, Surface Pattern, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in either kids' or Women's apparel design.
  • 3+ years of experience in CAD, print, or surface pattern design within apparel (kids and/or womenswear) and retail environments.
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop); familiarity with CAD software for garment-spec artwork and print prep.
  • Experience with licensed and private label product development preferred, including an understanding of approval processes and brand compliance.
  • Strong knowledge of print production methods, fabric behavior, repeat structure, color separations, and print-ready file preparation.
  • Demonstrated ability in trend research, seasonal concept development, and translating direction into commercial prints.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with cross-functional teams and external vendors; detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Portfolio demonstrating a range of print and pattern work across apparel categories, concept-to-production examples, and seasonal collections.
