SUMMARY
As an Art Director at Pico, you will partner with Creative Directors to conceptualize and deliver compelling experiential, spatial, and brand activation campaigns.

You are responsible for setting and maintaining the visual standard across projects — from pitch through to on-site execution — ensuring all creative output is strategically aligned, visually distinctive, and production-ready.

This is a versatile, hands-on role: you will be expected to both lead projects creatively and to execute — from concept ideation and art direction through to design production and on-site delivery. You will play a key role in elevating the creative ambition, inspiring both the team and our clients to push boundaries.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Brief Interpretation & Ideation
Interpret client briefs to develop strong visual concepts and creative narratives, independently or in collaboration with Creative Directors and cross-functional teams.
2. Project Leadership & Idea Ownership
Lead projects as the primary creative owner when assigned — driving the visual direction from concept through to completion, including proposing original ideas and seeing them through to execution.
3. Visual Ownership & Hands-On Execution
Own the art direction and visual identity of projects across experiential, spatial, environmental, and digital touchpoints — and be equally comfortable producing hands-on design work when timelines or project scope require it.
4. Directing Specialists
Brief and direct specialists including 3D visualizers, photographers, motion designers, and illustrators to achieve the intended creative vision.
5. Concept Presentation
Develop and present design concepts, mood boards, storyboards, and visual references to internal teams and clients.
6. Quality Control
Ensure all creative output meets a high visual standard and is consistent in brand application, from concept decks through to final production artwork.
7. Production Review
Review and quality-control design deliverables across print, large format, digital, and built environments, ensuring they are accurate and production-ready.
8. Team Leadership
Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of graphic and 3D designers, providing clear creative direction and constructive feedback.
9. Client Presentations
Lead or support client presentations and pitches, articulating creative rationale with clarity and confidence.
10. Production Collaboration
Collaborate closely with producers, project managers, and production teams to ensure designs are feasible within budget, timeline, and fabrication constraints.
11. Industry Awareness
Stay current with design trends, materials, fabrication techniques, and emerging technologies relevant to experiential and spatial design.

The Person:
1. Experience
Minimum 3 years of agency experience in art direction or senior design roles. Experience in experiential, events, or spatial design is strongly preferred.
2. Conceptual Thinking
Strong conceptual thinker with demonstrated ability to translate briefs into visually compelling and strategically sound creative solutions — and the initiative to proactively propose ideas, not just respond to briefs.
3. Visual Arts & Production Knowledge
Deep understanding of branding principles, spatial and environmental design, typography, photography, and print/production processes.
4. Software Proficiency
Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) or Working knowledge of 3D tools (SketchUp, 3DMax, or similar) and presentation tools (Keynote, PowerPoint, or Google Slides) is a plus.
5. Fabrication & Production
Familiarity with production processes for physical builds — materials, fabrication methods, large format print specifications, and on-site installation requirements.
6. Events & Exhibition Knowledge
Solid foundational knowledge of the events and exhibition industry — including understanding of booth/pavilion design, visitor flow, spatial storytelling, AV integration, and how activations function in live environments. This is not optional; it is core to the role.
7. Communication & Presentation
Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to sell ideas effectively to both internal stakeholders and clients.
8. Multi-Project Management
Comfortable managing multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
9. Versatility & Adaptability
A versatile creative who is equally comfortable leading a project from the front and getting hands-on with design execution when the situation calls for it. Not a “direction-only” Art Director — must be willing and able to produce work at a high standard.
